The series began after he moved to Delhi around 2000, during a period marked by financial difficulty. While undertaking commissioned projects, he began creating abstract paintings, which gradually expanded into a large body of work comprising several hundred pieces.

These were done mostly in acrylic on canvas and paper, often produced with speed and spontaneity. During this time, he engaged deeply with colour, exploring layering, transparency, and surface interaction, which greatly influenced his understanding of the medium.

Over time, this process led to the development of a personal abstract painting language. Notably, the entire body of work from this phase has since been acquired, leaving none in his personal collection.

Chromatic
